"So, Jo," asked my colleague in the Academic Support Center where we both tutor. He was peering over my shoulder as I was yarn window-shopping yet again--this time drooling over an intense blue colorway in Tosh Vintage. "Besides daydreaming about knitting, what else do you do with your spare time?"
It's true--knitting has kind of taken over my life as of late. I have recently decided to give up the boozy, party-girl existence I had been living and take up knitting, yoga, and cat-petting. I have been told the scientific term for what I'm going through is my "mid-to-late twenties." While I occasionally still dream about fruity, ice-cold Rieslings and frosty margaritas, I am most definitely enjoying this simpler and more peaceful existence.
Except--I am a ball of energy. So I've been channeling most of this energy into a knitting frenzy.
I'm also stubborn, so I find it boring to look up instructions for how I'm supposed to do something, preferring instead to jump right in, get incredibly frustrated with mistakes, frog repeatedly, curse, end up looking up instructions anyway, failing again, and giving up knitting for months.
So I'm trying to do it right this time. . . and hopefully, learning to knit amazing things will not drive me to the bottle. :]
Welcome to the obsession. I've never understood people who claim to be "casual knitters." I can't sit still anywhere without a project in my hands. I even knit at the bar, sipping my rum and coke.
