Nerdy Tuesday

Here's something really nerdy (but super exciting): I and my fantastic friend Kim are officially registered for Vogue Knitting Live in NYC in January! I'm taking the class:

Intro to Colorwork, Sarah Hatton: "This class is aimed at those who wish to improve their colorwork or are taking their first steps into knitting with color. We will cover joining in new colors, the intarsia technique as well as one-handed and two-handed Fair Isle methods."

I'm particularly interested in the Fair Isle methods. I've joined two colors together before, but I really want to do this delicious stuff:

The teacher is freelance designer Sarah Hatton, who started at Rowan and continues to be a regular contributer.

It's no secret I love color, so I'm hoping I learn a lot at this event. Being in Buffalo, I wish there were more knitting classes I could take to learn techniques from actual people as opposed to books or YouTube videos, so I am really excited to have a real live person show me how to do something!

Other than that, I got some yummy Sunshine Yarn in the mail yesterday. . .

Obsessed

"So, Jo," asked my colleague in the Academic Support Center where we both tutor. He was peering over my shoulder as I was yarn window-shopping yet again--this time drooling over an intense blue colorway in Tosh Vintage. "Besides daydreaming about knitting, what else do you do with your spare time?"

It's true--knitting has kind of taken over my life as of late. I have recently decided to give up the boozy, party-girl existence I had been living and take up knitting, yoga, and cat-petting. I have been told the scientific term for what I'm going through is my "mid-to-late twenties." While I occasionally still dream about fruity, ice-cold Rieslings and frosty margaritas, I am most definitely enjoying this simpler and more peaceful existence.

Except--I am a ball of energy. So I've been channeling most of this energy into a knitting frenzy.

I'm also stubborn, so I find it boring to look up instructions for how I'm supposed to do something, preferring instead to jump right in, get incredibly frustrated with mistakes, frog repeatedly, curse, end up looking up instructions anyway, failing again, and giving up knitting for months.

So I'm trying to do it right this time. . . and hopefully, learning to knit amazing things will not drive me to the bottle. :]
